Go Green With EatStreet Tips For National Recycling Day With A Takeout Twist

While we fully support giving into cravings and kicking hunger in its smug face, we want you to do so in a responsible, environmentally conscious way. With November 15th being National Recycling Day, you can still indulge in a delivery delicacy or takeout treat as well as flex your big, green muscles.

Reducing your unsalvageable food scraps is easier than ever. With some helpful tips from the EPA, we’ve tweaked them on how it can apply to when you are ordering out!

What the EPA says

Plan your meals for the week before you go shopping and buy only the things needed for those meals.

What EatStreet says

Got a long work night or a celebration coming up? Plan ahead with EatStreet for that night so extra groceries don’t wilt or rot away.

What the EPA says

Are you likely to have leftovers from any of your meals? Plan an “eat the leftovers” night each week.

What EatStreet says

Order a little extra for yourself to make more than one meal out of your order. It’s an easy way to have extra lunches for the week or a simple dinner after a toiling, taxing day.

What the EPA says

Wash, dry, chop, dice, slice, and place your fresh food items in clear storage containers for snacks and easy cooking.

What EatStreet says

Before you toss that takeout container in the recycling, check to see if it’s reusable. Many of them are dishwasher and microwave safe, so you can use them again and again!

We’re no strangers to the idea of a little extra from time to time at EatStreet, but only when doing so responsibly. Keeping the scraps and trash of meals past to a minimum is easy to do and if you want to get more involved in going green, check out the EPA’s full list of tips and tricks.
