Yesterday, the Academy Awards recognized the best in film. Today, the Food Oscars will crown the finest in food.
Best Actress Sauce in a Supporting Role
The nominees:
- Alfredo
- Pesto
- Hollandaise
- Marinara
- Brown gravy
The winner: Marinara. It’s a staple in just about every classic Italian dish. Light yet satisfying, simple tomato sauce is the epitome of delicousness.
Best Sound Drink Mixing
The nominees:
- Negroni
- Bellini
- Old Fashioned
- Sazerac
- Sidecar
The winner: Negroni. A single waft is all you need to realize that the Negroni is unlike anything you’ve ever encountered. Sprightly floral gin, subtly sweet vermouth, and rich herbal Campari coalesce perfectly into a magical red elixir.
Best Actor Protein in a Leading Role
The nominees:
- Cornish Game Hen
- Lamb
- Kobe Beef
- Prosciutto
- Yellowfin Tuna
The winner: Yellowfin tuna. There are over 60,000 sushi restaurants all over the world. Yellowfin tuna is an indispensible ingredient to their dishes and to their success.
Best Actor Vegetable in a Supporting Role
The nominees:
- Fennel
- Kale
- Asparagus
- Chickpeas
- Heircot verts
The winner: Asparagus. A tried-and-true (although often under-appreciated) performer, asparagus’s win was no doubt made possible by its virtuosic co-star hollandaise, who was also nominated this year.
Best Picture Preparation of Chicken
The nominees:
- Deep-fried Chicken
- Chicken Cacciatore
- Barbecue Chicken
- Chicken Dumpling Soup
- Chicken Cordon Bleu
- Chicken Coq au Vin
- Chicken Parmesan
- Chicken Kiev
- Jerk Chicken
The winner: For the first time in history, the Academy accepted a late entry. In what many are considering intentionally tongue-in-cheek favoritism, Chicken “Oscar” emerged victorious. It’s hard to argue with the selection, however: chicken, crab, asparagus, and hollandaise coalesce for the perfect bite.
